BCB Medical Aims at Leading the Nordic Markets in Five Years
BCB Medical, the supplier of medical information systems, is determined to become the leading company in its field and to expand in to international markets. Based in Turku, Finland, the company’s move to international markets is accelerated by the Tekes (The Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation) funding programme for young and innovative growth companies that can yield funding up to one million euro.
Making treatment chains more effective and following up on the effectiveness will become more important as the population becomes older and the expected life span becomes higher and also as medical science and technology develop further. The treatment chain can be made more effective by adding automation to routine operations, releasing the limited staff and time resources to taking care of patients.
”Our information system solutions support the management, distribution and monitoring of medical information. Uniform data collected and stored during all stages of the treatment chain enables the follow-up and reporting of the effectiveness of the treatment,” explains Petteri Viljanen, Managing Director at BCB Medical.
The aim of BCB Medical is to in five years become the leading supplier of treatment chain monitoring systems, especially in the field of orthopaedics in the Nordic countries, and a significant supplier of tissue bank solutions in Europe. At the same time, the monitoring system solutions are expanded to cover the treatment chains of other specialist fields as well.
”The constantly growing user base of our software solutions indicates that our cooperation with medical professionals has provided results and that the solutions are an answer to an existing customer need,” states Viljanen.
TissueDB, the information management solution for tissue banks, is used in 90% of the Finnish hospitals. ImplantDB, the management system for orthopaedic treatment chains, has a 50% market share in the Finnish hospital districts. In addition, BCB Medical has launched the ArtuX system for keyhole surgery information management.
Significant Funding for International Efforts from Tekes
BCB Medical passed the tight screening by Tekes and was accepted to the funding programme for young and innovative growth companies that aims to significantly accelerate the growth and internationalisation of promising growth companies. Funding is provided in different stages, based on tight criteria and careful assessment. The prerequisite for funding is a strong focus on product development. Currently, if the set goals for different stages are met, the funding BCB Medical receives can reach up to one million euro.
Technology Advisor Pekka Suomela from Tekes states that the products by BCB Medical are very interesting from the point of view of international markets. The company’s key strengths are the excellent understanding of the medical field and the customer-driven products. In addition, the company has versatile experience and know-how within the management team and Board of Directors.
”Our funding programme looks for market potential. We seek rapid growth in attractive international markets for companies led by strong teams, so the bar for receiving funding is set very high. Similar funding in Finland is granted only to a few dozen companies annually,” explains Suomela.
